Post Quarantine Working Out

It is coming...I think!

This has been an odd year to say the least. I think that in the next couple of weeks we may begin the process of getting back to normal or the “new normal” as they call it.

How is this going to look?

I think a majority of people that go to commercial gyms will go back. After all, this is the cheapest way to work out.

Not everybody will be happy. How do I put this delicately?  Hmmm. Let me just say it. Gyms seem to attract odd people like a light bulb attracts moths. Not a lot but enough to make you take notice. Not that they are weird so much as they are different from you. A couple of months ago that was okay… but now?

The environment will be different.  My point is that some will care more than others about distancing and wiping down equipment. I have no idea how you keep a gym sanitary and I don’t know how you practice social distancing.

What I am saying is quite a few people may never go back to the gym. Back in February it was gross to sit in someone’s sweat. Today it could be deadly.

Everyone has their own definition of how to stay safe and I try not to judge. If you don’t feel comfortable in a gym, you need to go to plan B. Lucky there are alternatives.

The Worst Thing to Do

Do nothing. Yup, that is the worst. thing to do but you knew I would say that.

The bottom line is that it pays to be healthy. I remember back in college I took a health class and the text book said,

“Exercise won’t prevent you from getting sick but it will help you survive it.”

I still remember that to this day. That is essential wisdom for 2020.

I am not here to rag on you about your health. I am not that person.

But… if you

  • have type 2 diabetes,
  • smoke
  • are overweight
  • are stressed out

You need to work on changing that. Hopefully this is a wake-up call for you.

I see the quarantine as a reset for a lot of people. It is never too late to start making a change. This is why I think personal coaching will increase in popularity.

Alternatives

I have been doing in home personal training now for over 12 years. I remember people laughing at me when I started saying that no one wants to stay in their house and train.

Here are the rules for 2020.

  • You need to fit exercise into your life.
  • You also need to feel safe while doing this.
  • You need to get results.

Given current conditions would you rather be in contact with me or several hundred strangers?

These days I am very careful to sanitize all the equipment I use with clients.   I will even wear a mask.

I would say that 99% of the people who start training with me:

  1. have nagging injuries
  2.  aren’t sure how to workout
  3.  need accountability.

That is great because I can work on all those issues. Sometimes people don’t realize what they need until we talk.

Weight loss is always a big part of the equation but the bigger picture is that I will get you healthy and strong.

The Park

Park training has been a nice surprise. I started training some of my people in local parks and will probably continue to do so as we get back to normal.  I use the term park loosely. Really what I mean is a patch of grass. I make the terrain part of the workout.

There are a couple advantages to this.

  •   It is much easier to keep the 6 foot rule in effect.
  • You get fresh air.
  • You are not in a stuffy gym listening to someone else’s music.

The other nice part about my training is that you can invite a few friends and split the cost. This is still personal training.

I don’t do bootcamps and never will. That is not my intention. Boot camps tend to be large groups without personal instruction. My training is specialized and I don’t want to train more than 3-4 people at a time. The key is to get the right people together and it turns out to be a very effective workout.

If you have any interest in this, let me know and we can figure something out.

Virtual Training

I started doing virtual training and it really isn’t as weird as it sounds because it does sound weird. It takes a few minutes to figure out Ipad angles but once that is in place it becomes a normal workout. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner.

To be honest, it won’t be for everyone. You need to have at least some equipment in your home and have an idea how to use it.

For the right person, it is a great fit. Very convenient and virus free!

Online Training

I have offered online training for years. I usually get an email a week from a “guru” who wants to teach me how to sell this to you. Usually it is accompanied by a picture of him in a chair by the beach training clients on his laptop… drink in hand.

These people want to charge me hundreds of dollars to teach me how to sell you on the idea of paying hundreds of dollars a month for online training. That is crazy.

Not as crazy as the emails I get from 20 year olds who want to be my life coach but that is another story.

I have the online training set up and in theory it is a good idea. Again, it works great for the right person.

I design custom workouts for you and send it to you via the app or email. You then open it up and do the workout.

Do you have the discipline to do this?

If you do, I am willing to work with you but I can’t see charging you hundreds of dollars to do that.

How about a dollar a day?

Interested?

Face it, you need to workout and get in shape. You will get older but there is no reason you need to feel older. Worse than that is feeling like you are older than you are.

There are too many fun things to do in life. My people will tell you that they are doing things now they couldn’t do a decade ago.

That is my value to you.

Interested?

I was almost totally full when the pandemic hit. I suspect a few of my people are going to drift off and not come back. I hope not but it happens. That is human nature, we get distracted.

What that means for you is that there may be a couple openings and if you want to check me out, there will be no better time to start.

No contracts and no hidden charges.

If you are interested, give me a shout. Better yet use this form or call me.
