Kinesio tape is a relatively new thing for the public. As with all mobility tools, there are things you need to know.
Does it work?
That is a tricky question to answer because there is an art to doing this properly. I have had great results with it but I read the directions and pay attention to what I am doing. I only say this because I have seen a number of people just slap it on and hope the best. It doesn’t work that way.
Coaches Cues:
Pay attention to the length of the tape. Some tape comes precut and others don’t. I like getting the roll of tape because I can customize the length for my own body parts.
Pay attention to the amount of stretch. This looks like flimsy fabric but it can have a real impact on how you move. if it says 50% stretch, stretch it out 100% and bring it back to 50%. Do not think you are doing yourself a favor by user more stretch than is recommended.
The ends of the tape are always applied with no stretch. also, the tape works a lot better if you put it on when you are clean. This is common sense. Tape will not stick very well to oily, sweaty or dirty skin.
The Nice people at Spartan Tape were nice enough to give me this handy chart and I wanted to share it with you. You can always go to YouTube and find videos on how to apply. Don’t freak out, there are lot of different techniques to apply the tape.
When you see the different colors in the chart, you don’t have to use different colors. In fact, all the tape is the same. They are using different colors to help you see where to put the different pieces of tape. Hey, the question does come up so I thought I would go ahead and answer it now.
Upper Body Taping
Thanks to Spartan Tape for letting me use these pictures.
Of all the tapes I have tried, I prefer Spartan tape. The adhesive is very good and it is considerably less expensive than KT Tape. But as always, the choice is yours.
115 foot roll
beige,black, blue or purple/pink

KT was the original tape company and RockTape also has a very good reputation.
