Post 123: Bullet-Proof Coffee: Is It All It Is Cracked Up To Be?

That is exactly what you should do with bullet-proof coffee. I found a great article that, believe it or not is even-handed about this controversial subject. I have studied under Dr. Berardi and still continue to do so with his Precision Nutrition courses. The thing I like about him is that he isn’t selling anything and he doesn’t have an ax to grind. So the info he puts out examines both sides of a topic and doesn’t steer you one way or another.

Let me tell you my experience with bullet-proof coffee. I started my journey with this stuff about a year ago. I was experimenting with 3 things.

One, the concept of intermittent fasting, letting my digestive system get a break everyday for about 12 hours everyday.

Two, adding more healthy fats to my diet and balancing out my omega 3 to omega 6 fat ratios.

Three, a way to wake up in the morning have energy and not feel bloated or having the feeling of having to go to the bathroom. As a trainer the mornings are my busy time , so I cannot be bothered with anything that will upset my stomach or slow me down.

In my opinion, bullet-proof coffee has been exceptional for all 3 reasons.

Now in fairness, I only use 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in my coffee. In the article they mention the standard recipe of 2 tablespoons for each.  I also only have one cup a day. I am not guzzling fat all day for energy. I also have not had my cholesterol checked this year so I cannot say whether the consumption of the extra fats has raised or lowered my numbers.

What the coffee does for me is to give me a nice slow-burning, long lasted stream of energy that last for a few hours. It seems to take the caffeine in the coffee and smooth it out, if that makes sense. I never have stomach issues and never feel like I am starving.

Everybody reacts differently to this stuff. I don’t think micotoxins are an issue so feel free to use any organic coffee. The butter of choice is Kerry Gold. As for MCT oil or coconut oil, there are a lot of good choices out there.

Lastly, because I am providing my body with fuel (the MCT oils) I have been able to easily drop fat and keep muscle mass which is critical for me. Again, this is my personal experience. The article provides examples where this has gone wrong for people.

The bottom line is to experiment for yourself.
